Frankie Whyte, lead guitarist/vocalist and ¼ of Toronto’s own rock n’ roll explosion band “Frankie Whyte & The Dead Idols” is taking a tip from Dee Snider:

“I just wanna rock… it really is as simple as that”, shrugs 23 year old Whyte.
Whyte is a multi-instrumentalist that started on drums at age 9 and progressed to guitar at age 11. “With guitar, it was just easier to get involved in so many different musical situations. You can carry it on your back everywhere you go, where as drums don’t exactly have the same practicality. I wanted to be available to get in on any musical situation at any given time. It takes two seconds for someone to notice and say, ‘oh, you have a guitar with you?’. You bet I do, and I can play it too.”
If wanting to be available and able for many different musical situations was the dream – then this goal was met as Whyte grew up, playing in a number of different bands - ranging from promising young outfits to the Woodchoppers Association headed by drummer Dave Clark (Rheostatics, Gord Downie). In 2007, Whyte officially packed up all of her many projects, with the goal of realizing her own potential as a singer/songwriter/performer in mind. Her response was in the forming of Frankie Whyte & The Dead Idols with guitarist Danny Cavalcante, and producer Duncan Coutts, bassist from Canadian heavy weights Our Lady Peace, at the helm.
“I was playing for so many bands, all of which were amazing experiences – but no one was playing the type of music I dreamt about playing… go big or go home, right? So I quit everything – and started from scratch. That’s when I met Duncan - we started writing together, and we were writing the music we grew up loving”.
Since then, Frankie Whyte & The Dead Idols have gone on to sign with FortybySixty Records, and released their debut EP “Hollywood Ending” in 2009. They have shared stages with bands such as LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, Our Lady Peace, The Trews, Thornley and Matthew Good Band – as well as summer dates with KISS, which seems to be right up Whyte’s alley.
“Anything that sounds like it should be played in an arena, I’m down with… everything is big about the arena… even so literally … the venue itself is big, it requires big music and a big show. Motley Crue, Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams, The Police, Bon Jovi,… all of the bands we love, these are all bands that sound like an “arena” when you hear their records; the KISS dates were perfect for us, that band invented the arena “sound”. They were made to play those venues. That’s what we aim for as a band: to write big music, with an even bigger show to back it up.”
